I can't use deodorant, it is on the list of things I react to. I use hydrogen peroxide when I have odor, which isn't often. I use unscented shampoo and Dove soap, original. I like the convenience of conventional products, timewise, I shower and get out-on to the next thing.

I sometimes use coconut oil as moisturizer. I can use Aveeno, but no other store bought product.

Kudos to you for seeking a healthier, cheaper way to be clean!

Thank you Bee. I am comfortable with who I am. I love every birthday I get! White hair runs in the family. My paternal grandfather, my mother and me, all grayed early and were white haired.

My husband also grayed early, had very curly hair, now it is straight and pure white. Ain't he handsome? LOL

Thank you NH Homesteader for the lovely compliment. We took pictures in pasture #2 because the clover and rye grass is so beautiful. Been saving it to wean my ram lambs into.

Love the hair too Bay! I did the bottled redhead for awhile...loved it! But, decided to let it get back to natural. And, now my hairdresser has made me promise not to color it anymore, lol. I have very little gray - so far!

I take magnesium also - mostly because I have the WORST leg cramps at night if I don't. I combine magnesium, potassium and calcium and the combo has stopped my cramps - thank goodness!

My hair falls out and I shed like the dog. Can you expound further on your hair care? If it is on YT, I don't get much out of it. My internet is not the best.....it starts, stops, the circle thingy rolls on, start, stop, roll the circle, stop, start, roll the circle.....I get ticked off and shut it down.

It's pretty simple...wash your hair one last time with a clarifying shampoo of your choice to strip it pretty good. Then follow up with an all natural shampoo and conditioner that has no silicones, no sulfates, no parabens, no mineral oils, etc.

Then continue in that from now on. Many brands are jumping on the no silicones, no sulfates band wagon lately but you have to be careful and read your labels. They will try to trick you with the front of the bottle. Here's a site with the current list of products that are healthier for your hair and contain none of the bad stuff:

https://curltalk.naturallycurly.com/discussion/147483/cg-friendly-products-list

I'll make it real easy on you...Walmart carries two brands/lines that are fail safe and will produce good results, with the one line being the choice of all people doing natural hair care(Shea Moisture). Shea Moisture and Maui~both have some amazing products of all kinds and for all kinds of hair. Shea Moisture is the more popular of the two, but Maui is cheaper.

The key to stop losing so much hair is to moisturize, moisturize, ,moisturize your scalp and hair. No more hair dryer on a heat setting, no heat styling at all. Rinse your hair in tepid water to seal the moisture into the cuticle of the hair.

Use a large tooth comb for detangling. Don't wash your hair more than 2 times a week and take it down to one time if you can work up to it.

No using a terry cloth towel for drying your hair and no rubbing to dry it...you can use a microfiber towel or even an old T shirt and you just scrunch the hair with that or wrap the hair up in these things to soak up the excess water.

Protective hair styling for sleeping...either place your hair in a loose tie(scrunchies...no thin hair bands) on top of your head or sleep in a satin cap and/or use a satin or silk pillow case. All that friction against a cotton pillow case as you sleep at night is wearing on your hair strands. I just use a silk/satin pillow case as my hair is really too short to do any good by placing it all on top of my head...plus I sleep on my stomach, so it doesn't touch the pillow all that much.

Deep condition at least once a month with a good hair oil or oil mix~I use castor oil, olive oil, amla oil and tea tree oil. Warm in microwave, place on scalp and massage in for 10 min. then wash out and proceed with normal hair routine. I use mine once a week as I'm trying to grow my hair out, but you don't really need to do that with your long and lovely hair, Bay.

For me it was very soon after I started using the Maui product, particularly plenty of conditioner, that I noticed the lack of hair loss...it was amazing. If I had all the hairs I used to lose in one place I could make my own yak. Every year.

Now I'm using the Maui shampoo and the Shea Moisture conditioner, following up with a little Maui or Shea Moisture deep conditioner on the ends. I never used to use more than a little conditioner on my ends but never all through my hair...thought it would weigh my hair down and leave me greasy. Maybe the old chemically conditioner would do that, but this all natural stuff is amazing! Soft hair, never a heavy or greasy feeling even on day three hair, amazing shine.

To think that all that hair will remain on my head now is astounding...could be I can finally grow my hair back out to where it used to be when I was young.

Then my grand daughters ought to be darned healthy. They can't wait to get here and roll in the dirt. They make me dirt cookies, cakes, ice cream, drinks and sandwiches. :drool Delicious. They wallow in dirt, hug the animals and have fun. They beg for a bath in our garden tub and have fun splashing in it. Life is wonderful for a 3 and 1 1/2 year old. :love

I agree! Aliza(4 yrs old) and I have a motto that she frequently quotes to her Mom and her Mammy, who always exclaim about how dirty they get out here..."If you ain't gettin' dirty, you ain't havin' fun!".

When she was little, she used to go in the chicken coop barefooted but then her Mom got all concerned about it and put a halt to it. That kid is the healthiest kid in the world...she's never had a cough, throwing up, earache, sore throat or any of the common kid maladies.

Out here it's all about getting close to the dirt and transporting as much as possible to the bathtub.

I'd love to try this! Do you use a brush of some kind to wash your body? How long did you do this before you noticed it was working and there was no sweat stink? I've been thinking about getting that boar bristle body brush for bathing and experimenting with using no soap, just to see what happens.

It's encouraging to know that your legs are shiny...speaks of good, healthy skin cells there.

Been using the Curly Girl too and am starting to see some curl definition but it's slow. Today was the first day it REALLY looked good when I awakened but it's 97% humidity this morning, so when I walked the dogs it turned into a rag.

I found I can't pineapple at night as it stretches out my curls, but I can wet my hair down, reapply some leave in, follow it up with a gel and sleep on it that way. During the night, the moving around in my sleep seems to break the cast and it all comes out looking great by morning.

The silk pillowcase has been wonderful, not only for my hair but for my face...I sleep on my stomach and the left side of my face mostly, so would often get up in the morning with a big crease and fluid pouch under that left eye, a crease by my nose, etc. that just wouldn't work out during the day. The silk took care of all of that.

Although I personally do not advocate this... I have read that urine is supposed to be good to prevent dandruff and make the hair glossy- it rebalances the ph of the scalp after using shampoo. It was supposedly an old Gypsy trick. I've also read that the Inuit used to use it to clean their hair as well-- not sure if it was because it doesn't freeze or because it did a good job of cleaning. I can't imagine the smell though :sick

There's your ear worm for today :D
