WHAT ARE YOU CANNING TODAY?

Apricot jam, plum jam, Fruit Cocktail, and pears--no final count yet, still in the middle of the mess but taking a break for a moment!

Have 15 bean soup type beans soaking to can tomorrow, after work.... I'm addicted - what can I say, lol!
Beans are my 'to try' canning item this year! Thankfully, they are something that won't spoil while I play catch up with all the other stuff I need to get to! :)

Can them now! They make great Meals in a jar! :P

7 Pints of plum tomatoes before work. And tonight I am grinding cucumbers, peppers and onions for dill relish. Had to open the window and leave the kitchen after the onions, just waiting for the crying to stop before I go back in and salt down the bucket of veggies. :hit

Two pints of pear butter out of the whole pot of pears I cooked all day. It's nice and thick and oh so good. Had to get the ripest pears done. Got more grapes to finish up tomorrow.

Another "apple day" here. Found a post on Craig's list from a gal locally who has a Mac tree that was enormously generous this year and got nearly a full 5 gallon bucket of 'em from her. Very exciting as Macs are our fave apples. DH also found a couple of crabapple trees near his office and brought home about as many of those as the Macs. They're yellow and pretty good sized, so I'll probably juice them; will do sauce and butter with the Macs. Now, just need to find some of the small red crabs for jelly. Yum.

At work now - but 15 bean soup is in the crockpot this morning after soaking all night. I'll process it when I get home.

I did another five quarts of grape juice. I'll be setting the juicer up again after dinner and making some more tonight.

I was bad and popped open a jar of the apricot jam that mom made. Had to try that. Haven't had apricot jam made from ripe apricots since I was in high school when grandma had to cut down her tree. My uncle found a tree way back on my great uncles property that they didn't know was there and brought mom several boxes of fruit.

My juicing and canning up stuff has revived mom's want to can as well. She's been making jams, jellies, and syrups the last couple years. She can't eat wheat anything, but she likes to use the preserves for oatmeal, ice cream, yogurt, cheese cake, and the rare biscuits she makes with alternative flours. I'm glad she started doing it again. It's made her feel happier about her restricted eating.

like most of you i have done a lot of caning...
at least 60 dozen since this time last year...
and have been on the quest for jars...
my hubby jokes and says he\s gonna find me a
CA group...to take care of my addiction...

I started out the day...filling my trunk with 12 dozen assorted size..
craigslist...score $20
then later found value village had a few jars...they sell them 4 for 99c
i got $11 worth
but the best score...came from a lovely lady who saw my cart full of jars...
and she said she had some I could pick up for free...
she generously gave me 4 dozen..
but was gloriously surprised when I opened the box and most were the old glass top kind...

Moolie...are you there....???? I know you are the expert using this type of jar...
i do have a box of new rubber rings...but are the rubber rings reusable???
and are thease ok for pressure canning or just wbc
thanks would very much appreciate knowing..
