interesting because for us i've only had a few jars that don't match well with most of the rings we have and i've discarded those or used them as a decoration someplace or something so i don't reuse them again. they were older jars with very thick glass and rims.

also when it comes down to lids not working i've only had issues with some generic ones and one time a box of Ball lids would not work, but i took them back for replacement and haven't had any further issues. this is very very rare considering how many thousands of quarts we've done over the years. any generic lids i have left i've been using for making freezer jam since they don't get sealed formally in any kind of processing other than warming lid up in some hot water and putting the ring on the usual firm + quarter turn i do out of habit.

we've not usually bought jars of off-brands other than once in a while and they've generally been ok and they've been used quite a few times already, but if you know of certain brands of jars that are an issue it would be nice to know to avoid them in the future if you could list the ones that have been causing the most issues. :)

These particular jars are Anchor-Hocking. The jar is 1/8 inch shorter in the neck, the ring is about 1/16 inch shorter, but the ending point on the ring track is about 1 inch shorter than either Kerr or Ball.
