Yep, it's hard to beat the good old 30-30. For over 100 years, the 30-30 has been knockin' 'em dead.

:D

I love the 30-40 Krag!

My dad has one with the open site. My son used it to drop 3 deer in the last half our of the day last year.

Pretty nice for a nearly 100 year old gun.

Another favorite is the 270.

Finally went with a 30.06 Savage Axis. Went with this gun because of the brush situation around here. .243 doesn't really go through anything. 30.06 is supposed to knock just about anything dead. The bullets are cheaper than a 7mm 08 too, by about $10 per box.

I have another 30-06 which is more of a long range rifle. It is a custum built Husqvarna 1900, the gunsmith is named Tomas Albrechtsson who worked at the Norma smithy before they outsourced gunsmithing. It has a heavy varmint barrel and supressor. Together with av Trijicon 2,5-10x56 it can be used very late at night as well as daytime. Not that you are allowed to hunt deer at night time in Sweden (well, roe deer can be hunted from 1 hour before sunrise untill 1 hour after sunset) but we are allowed to hunt wildboar and redfox at any hour.

And of course I have a rifle in 6,5x55 Swedish mauser, the old national calibre of Sweden. Nowadays I use it more for practice and redfox huniting than for deerhunting. With a Schmidt & Bender 4-16x50 it's very accurate long range rifle. My father in law gave it to me when I started hunting.
