What's a baby goat to do when there are no mountains to climb?

Climb a hay bale, lol!

This is what happens when the gate is left open...

Not that you would ever leave the gate open. Must be those conniving goats!
Of course not! That would be the farm gremlin. You know - if water gets left running it's the farm gremlin. If a gate mysteriously comes open - it's the farm gremlin. That sorta thing...

However, in this particular instance it actually was me, lol. I opened the gate to the hay storage pen so the goats could go in and eat the grass that's growing up around the stored hay. They just didn't stop at the grass, lol. You know - the "other" bale of hay is better than the one that's already out for them to eat. Sheesh!

Had a coldish front come through this morning. Didn't matter - still have chores that need to be done. So - this morning I gave 8 kids their dose of coccidia prevention meds. I had to make myself a grid to know when each kid is due for which dose. Hard to keep up with 19 kids (so far), born on different dates each needing 3 doses, 3 weeks apart. Yikes! Did 8 this morning. First dose for some, 2nd dose for others. It's mind boggling, lol.

Also shifted around some of the mamas/babies. Brought up the last of the does that haven't kidded yet. They are in the smaller barn now - but closer to the house. Makes life a little easier on me for late night/early morning checks.

Bought some ground beef on sale last week. I used some to can meatloaf. That was a first for me. Some going into soup today and one small pkg in the freezer.

I've also amassed quite a bit of butter that I grab every time it's on sale. It freezes beautifully, but I'm starting to think about making another batch of ghee.

Milking a doe or two every other day or so. Really, really enjoying the fresh creamy milk! Haven't made anything else yet because I'm only sneaking a bit here and there. When I start milking 'for real' I'll think about some kefir, yogurt and cheese.

Yes, it is cold and windy. 38 tonight, 31 for Friday and Saturday night. Chores still have to be done.
I had errands to run today, still in “town” clothes. Nice thing about winter, I can put Carharts on over nice clothes and still do chores. That also works well on lazy days when I put Carharts on over PJ’s.
