Okay. See I thought queso blanco was more like paneer and didn't melt but queso fresco did melt. :/ Maybe I'll just stick with making cheddar from now on. :P
I keep testing it every day and you're right! It does get softer but does not melt. My impression from the fiasco farms site was that it would melt. Oh well. :P Thanks for letting me know though because I would probably keep going on like this forever daily cutting off a slice and trying to...
I made queso fresco on Wednesday using the Fiasco Farms recipe. I was thinking it would melt but mine is just not melting. It's driving me crazy. It has a nice flavor and we'll use it, but I was hoping to use it on quesadillas or something fake mexicanish. (Oh, and I followed the recipe...
I'm so glad to hear that we're making a good choice with the ducks. We've had muscovies before and they did not live up to their reputation of annihilating all bugs in sight. LOL
Thank you everyone for the insight and advice about chicken breeds too. :)
I have one. My electric bill goes up $60 per month when I use the Eden Pure for about 12 hours each day. I don't think they are all that cost effective I did the math and it should cost closer to half of that so I'm not sure what the deal is.
I made these this morning with fried eggs. These are man-catching food. LOL They were so good. I was thinking they'd be a bit dense because of the cheese and bacon, but they were so light and airy.
Thank you so much for posting this recipe. It's definitely going into my recipe binder!
I don't know. I'm sure your local extension office would say NO. Did you know they now poo poo canned pumpkin?
This is really thick and has lots of flour. I kind of thinking canning it might make the texture break down but I am not sure. Freezing does something weird to the texture too so...
I have the Country Living Mill and it's really hard work to grind fine flour. I timed myself today and it took 3 minutes to get ONE cup of flour and that was going at a good pace. Grrrr. Getting your mill the option of electric like you said is a great idea! You are very kind to your birds.
This is the cake I turn to if I need chocolate STAT.
(It's called depression cake because supposedly it was made in the depression when eggs were rationed but we'll just pretend it's a play on words and eat it when we're bummed out.)
3 cups unbleached flour
2 cups sugar (if using maple syrup...
I have a quick and easy chocolate cake recipe that I can post if you want. Depression Cake. LOL I have like 5 favorite chocolate cake recipes but if you are going for instant gratification, this is the fastest one to whip up. :P
For those comfort food recipes that you can't live without yet don't want to use the canned stuff, this is your solution. I've made it many times and it works well in the recipes I've used. Tonight we're having Pioneer Woman's chicken spaghetti using this. Yum!
This recipe is from...
They just seem like their brains and natural instincts were bred out of them, their laying rate didn't seem to be that great compared to my heritage breeds, and they have absolutely no personality. They'll actually squat down for a predator. LOL
I have a Country Living Mill that we've C-clamped onto our kitchen counter but it shakes the counter while we're grinding wheat. LOL It's just a matter of time before the counter detaches, I think. I am wondering what you have attached your manual mills to that is sturdy enough?
I just placed my replacement hens order last week.. but now I am having second thoughts. I wanted chicken breeds that are very hardy with excellent foraging skills, good layers and the ability to go broody if we ever need to breed our own chickies. Spent a lot of time researching this too...
