    Planning for Bird Flu/Swine Flu

I strongly suggest that people fully prep their pantries for at least three months worth of food...if the flu does become as bad as expected in the fall, you may be staying home much longer than you anticipate to avoid becoming infected.

    The Iodine Thread

Hey there! I haven't been logging in for a while, and I finallly read through this thread. I recently had a surgical breast biopsy....I spoke with my surgeon about the fact that I had a total thyroidectomy a number of years ago, and was born and raised in the "low thyroid" belt of the US. I...

Lupinfarm... Everyone has good suggestions, but I think he sounds mentally ill... You're in a tough situation...I'd be very concerned too, in your shoes. Keep a log of everything...his antics, your phone calls to authorities, etc...

    Quail_Antwerp: Words from the Barnyard...

I had a Toulouse goose a couple years ago (before taken by a coyote...) She wanted to be a mom SOOOOO bad. She built a nest, and carefully sat on 3 of her own eggs, some chicken eggs that she scrounged, and a plastic egg out of one of the nesting boxes. I also brought home a couple of Cornish...

    It's a girl!!! pics-Update-AND ANOTHER GIRL!!!

I'm not sure how you'd go about tracing your horse's history, but I CAN tell you that many of the PMU ranchers are still breeding...and that most of their horses ARE papered...and papers in no way keep a horse from heading to the slaughterhouse. Was there any kind of brand on the paintperch? I...

    Dried kidney beans

I once bought some dried split peas for soup- and they NEVER softened up! They were like little pieces of gravel...this was in Florida and I think that bag was really old....(not unlike a lot of the population...heheh! Just kidding, folks....)

The Self-Sufficient Skills thread (new name, old thread!)

This isn't really a self sufficiency skill, but... I've taught myself to make jewelry...for people AND for horses... The goal is to sell the jewelry and give the profits to my horse rescue forum...we use the funds to help people adopt slaughter bound horses and/or med expenses...things that...

Oh, man...I STILL WANT SOME!!! Here's a funny story about me...for a while my hubby had to spend time out of town every week for business...and it seemed like every time he went out of town, I added another bird or animal... Friends quipped that when husbands leave, most wives buy jewelry or...

OH - MY- GOSH! Your babies are both adorable (and the moms aren't too shabby either!) I have to say though, that I am partial to drafties, so I am drooling over your newest.... Is your mare a PMU girl? ( I've been involved with online horse rescue for several years and love every single...

    Planning for Bird Flu/Swine Flu

I keep typing my thoughts and then erasing them, trying to decide if its worth mentioning...or if it will just increase the debate... I wanted to hear how people prepare their families and homes for a medical emergency. Since this is a self-sufficiency forum, I expected real scenarios that...

    Planning for Bird Flu/Swine Flu

When I started this thread, it was out of curiosity about how people kept their homes prepared for a medical scenario. I belong to several forums (not self sufficiency types) and each has its own perspectives. I wasn't trying to alarm people, just trying to find out if my own supplies were...
