Two of the three bull calves are changing color. I'm unsure if the two will turn red or dun or both, but they are most definitely changing from black.

Pic taken yesterday. Bessey's bull calf born black with white band. 4 weeks and 3 days later. He's not so black anymore 🤷‍♂️

@flowerbug I definitely use lot of tomatoes....chunks, diced, seasoned, sauce...I can it all. Dried beans get canned for fast use in chilis, soups, etc.corn, limas, green beans and I like to have some potatoes canned. Waxy whites for a fast potato salad fix, sweets because I love them! :drool I've not run out of much over the years. Overprepared.

You plan & eat differently when only one or a couple -- than before, when kids were home. Plus you don't want to cook every night. So heat & eat rules. I just like non chemicalized home foods.

My dinner tonight was ICE CREAM seeing how I can only eat on the right side of my mouth tonight and for the next couple of days. Not sure how I am going to handle the dinner (HOMEMADE PIZZA [ 1 Pepperoni & Cheese, 1 Sausage & Cheese, 1 Pepperoni, Sausage and Cheese and 1 PLAIN Cheese plus SMOKED Chicken Wings) tomorrow night then later on we're going to do a fire and S'mores (I think) but I will figure it out.
Guess the dentist appt went okay.... not fun but you will be glad to have them out...
Hope that you can eat on the right side more comfortably tomorrow...

We were 39 also... a forewarning like @Mini Horses said to get things ready. We got the cattle moved out of WV pasture yesterday and they were calling for some snow flurries...glad we got done there. Their trees were absolutely gorgeous... colors really changing there fast... This cold will hasten ours to change now...
Back to work, a farm wants to test this aft... gee, a little notice would be nice....:th:idunno:idunno

Similar weather here. 37 degrees this morning. DS8 tried to wear shorts to school. He wouldn't have made it to the bus stop! I'm a very mean mom for making him put long pants on.

I go outside to do work in shorts and a t shirt in that temp when I'm acclimated to it or colder. I have plenty of my own insulation, though.

Updated corral work in progress, raised it up another foot, installed bull/crowd gate. need another 6 foot bull gate to replace the red one but everywhere is out of stock 🤷‍♂️

Told Farmbabe I think I built a play pen because the calves are in it more than the others are.

This is a new dog, I think he thinks he's my dog. No collar, just showed up a few weeks ago and I've been taking care of him. I reckon someone didn't want him anymore and dropped him off 🤷‍♂️. it's ok I'll take him and take care of him. someone loved this pup, he's very well mannered and likes to be petted and scratched behind the ears. I'm calling him copper, because he's got a copper colored coat. He sleeps behind the barn, next to the turkeys on some hay I set out for him.

He seems to play nice with all the farm animals unless he hunts out a rabbit then he sounds the alarm. Any idea what breed he is? if he hangs around a little while longer I'll get him a collar with his name tag our address and phone number, then it'll be official as official gets.

Also, why replace the red gate? It should not have that much pressure on it since it is in the "load out" alley.... Also, it should be lower to the ground... young cattle will occasionally look to go UNDER a gate or fence before they will try to go over it... we have had calves put their heads down under the corral panels we set up at pasture to get them in to load into trailers at the end of the grazing season.... and they can flip those panels in a hurry... and they are only about 12-15 inches off the ground...
Granted yours are all pretty quiet and tame... but the ones you have gotten to feed out for beef are not the "babies" your belted ones are...

AND if you are thinking sheep, you want it to be low enough to be able to use it to load sheep in a trailer if needed... and they will get out under anything 6-8 inches off the ground....it should be down around the same height of the boards on the side of the alley...
I hung it high enough to swing into the livestock trailer. When I'm done loading it'll get hung on the lower gate pins. high is for loading, low is for normal. But I will have it chained open most of the time. It's only a 6 foot gate, so easy to move from one set of gate pins to the other.

Agree also on the beagle influence. @CrealCritter make sure you contact the local dog warden/animal control and even a few vets in the area in the possibility that it got lost and owners are looking for it... Beagles are notorious for "following their nose" and getting lost from home and will just find the next "nice person" to latch on to...
Not saying you would not make a good dog owner... because I am SURE you would... but just to exhaust all possibilities of it belonging somewhere and someone looking for it... They have been know to travel MILES when they get on a scent....
Kudos for you feeding it and taking care of it...
Any vet can check for a chip.....
I put word out when he first showed up looking for his owner. If he decides to stay, I'll take him to the vet and ask to have him scanned for a chip, while they do a check up.I doubt he's chipped though, he showed up without a collar, but you don't know until they do a scan.

My neighbors are thinking like I am, that someone dropped him off. If I can't find his owner, It's ok. I'll take care of him. He seems to think I should be his owner anyways. And besides I was having problems with rabbits (was) copper has seem to have run them off 👍
