That's cute HM..

DD is 2 & this will be her first yr actually t&ting, so it will be interesting. I already got her costume from freecycle. It was advertised as a witch, but it looks more like a princess dress & she was calling it that when we got home & showed daddy.

******kids love costumes. Nicole so far wants to be a soccer player, a doctor or an artist. Strange choices huh? LOL---whatever they pick they are always cute!!!!

I love when I see babies dressed up in those little footie costumes, like a lion, a penquin suit...LOL

Hey Karen I dressed Danielle up last yr as pumpkin, but she did not trick or treat she just rode in the stroller. This yr she will do the whole kit & kaboodle. I think she will be more vocal than her brother he tends to be shy for some reason. It will be interesting to see what happens to Halloween if our economy takes a big tank.

We have always let Richard carve a jack o lantern but no one ever saw them as our porch was hidden by mil's house. So we will have it visable this yr. Next yr I plan on growing both lg & sm(baking) pumpkins in the garden. then I can sell the extras too.

Yes they do learn fast!!
Next yr she will be a dalmation, Richard was one when he was 3 that grandma & I made. I took a white sweat suit & painted black spots on it all over. Grandma made a tail for it & a headband with ears for him. I saved it & even let a niece wear it too. So it is in a box with 3T clothes for next yr. I just hope she is still into the dalmations by then. She loves that movie & says "I wanna watch puppies". After she is done with the costuem I will put it in Richards bag of keepsakes since his grandma helped make it.

Ok, I'll be the party pooper. I hate hallowe'en. There, I said it. I have always hated it, and even as a kid I did not understand the concept, although I did go out as a kid--peer pressure.

I hate the commercialism of all holidays--all it is- is the retailers cashing in on every excuse they have to make money, and we have to spend it.

I hate the commercialism of Christmas, Easter, etc etc. I believe we should celebrate Christmas and Easter, as there are REAL reasons to celebrate, but do it without all the unnecessary spending for junk that goes along with it.

We are very modest with our gift giving at Christmas,, my children were not taught about Santa Claus, they were taught about Jesus, and Easter is not celebrated with chocolate and bunnies.

Hallowe'en? Dressing up to scare the evill spirits away? To get free candy? Ludicrous.

Sorry, I am being a party pooper and I know it. Baa Humbug!

Disclaimer: my views, my rant. Please continue with the regularly scheduled program ;)--I just had to get that off my chest

hey north your post had me cracking up! just funny the way you finished it, my rant, my views and now continue with the scheduled program..HA HA HA HA

yea I hear ya on the commercialism. I do like most holidays....and I am doing what you said. We love Santa in this house and do make sure that the true meaning of the holiday comes thru.....I am taking Christmas definitely back to its true meaning. More about family now and good times vs. stress of holiday financial strain and such. I do enjoy the lights and all and just soak up the good atmosphere wherever I can find it!!!!

One thing we are doing this holiday season, is volunteering to help somewhere during this time. I want Nicole to learn that holidays are for all to be enjoyed, and giving your time during this season is a wonderful thing to do. So to throw some meaning back into the holiday versus the commericalism of it all. This is something we are going to make as a family tradition and I am starting this year! Since she is 3 she can actually help someone now.

oh well....my view, my rant, back to the scheduled program...HA HA HA

It's okay to not like certain holidays or parts of them. I dispise all the commercialism in them also. Dh & I are resourceful in the fact that we make a lot of our own decos instead of a bunch of store bought items. My children are taught the true meaning of Christmas too, but Santa does pay a visit, he just brings a limited amount of gifts. We try to focus on the family being together & the main reason behind the holiday each yr. this yr ds#2 will be giving a report at Thanksgiving & Christmas & Easter dinner to the family on what the tru meaning & why we celebrate them(we homeschool). Something new for us to do.

:rant I HATE THE COMMERCIALSIM ALSO. I hate that parents feel like they have to participate in with the seasons newest costumes from all these childrens cartoons, childrens weekend shows, childrens weekday shows etc, etc. I hate the fact that our holidays are so DISTORTED.
Miss_thenorth, You can rant all you want. I agree with most of what you said. I just know for myself that I LOVE HALLOWEEN :D. I will dress up for CANDY. Maybe I should have a bumper sticker that says "WILL DRESS UP FOR CHOCOLATE", lol.
That is the biggest reason I do not get into the other holidays......all it is is commercialism.
by the way please send all you free candy to :

hey HM
that sounds like a great outfit the dalamation...never thought of that one. Will be pushing that idea.

I make all costumes...I think I bought like 2 or so in my whole life. Mom would give us stuff from the closet or we hit goodwill and saw what we could transform into costumes.

I do know some of the costumes can get quite pricey. Nicole's bumble bee costume was $49.99---but not for me.....I got it at goodwill for $4. Perfect condition and when I saw the price in the store I was floored...no way I would be paying that..LOL

Roosmom, I refuse to buy all the high priced costumes, I make the majority of them for my kids. One yr my ds#1 went as a chocolate covered marshmallow. No need to worry about a look a like that yr.
