My kids are not fond of the moist spongy texture, I am wondering about a combo of the butternut brownie and the black bean cake recipes?

The thing I dont like about the butternut recipe, is that it has such a strong nutty flavor....but if I cut back on the almond butter and added 1/2 can of black beans?..hmmmm.

I will post results of what I try. Gotta buy more honey first though.

I put the beans in a pot to start soaking this morning. Wish me luck!

Good luck! ;)

Make sure the beans are cooked until very tender or they don't mash up well.
Yup! I have had a couple cakes that were a tiny bit gritty.
Just had to pretend it was cocoa nibs :gig

Any suggestions as to duration needed to cook them enough?

Till they are done?
Because they are soaked, I am guessing its an hour or so.

Most of my jobs have been food service type, and I have a horribly frustrating knack for cooking by feel. And this extends to how much to buy and serve as well. Its very nerve wracking, but I have never been able to succeed any other way :idunno
I can throw a fancy sit down family style banquet for 200 plus single handedly, but do not ask me for gritty details :barnie

Made the cake for lunch dessert today, it turned out great!

My picky little choco-holic DD loved it plain. I will be making this again in the summer, topped with fresh strawberries and cream. The ultra-picky eldest DD can't get past the beans, but I'll leave a little piece out and "forget" about leaving it there. ;)

Thanks everyone, particularly BubblingBrooks and BBH!

I've got two guinea pigs I can try new recipes on - my DFiance', and my youngest daughter - my youngest son will, only if he hungry enough, and it has to look good enough to eat.

I've found out it's easier if they don't see you making it ...

I got this recipe from PaulaJo over at BYC, she has a cool blog called Sustainable Firstfruits. I'll post the blog spot address in a sec.

This is a cake that passes all the tests that a chocolate cake must pass, in order to be made again.
I do not know where this recipe originated from. Thanks go out to whoever figured it out.

Black Bean Chocolate cake.

*Cook and cool the beans in fresh water, prior to making the cake.
(Beans may be cooled quickly by rinsing with cold water)

So, I realize this is probably a stupid question, but how do I cook these? Do I just put them on the stove until they boil, and then cool them off? Or do they have to boil or simmer for a while? Is it like making rice, where they are done when they are soft? Also, do I cook them in fresh water, or use the same water I soaked in and just cool/rinse in fresh water? :) Making the cake this morning, have had them soaking since yesterday morning :) can't wait! Thanks ya'll!
