Monique - I have no problem with church ladies - the topic was about trespassing. I have talked to this specific lady before, and others of various religions that stop by. I have always been polite and considerate to them, but always declined their invitation. AND they have always minded their own business, staying at the front door.

I might have been rude however, if I confronted her in the back yard.

I realize that she might be a poor example of this - which is why I did not any one to make it about religion.

I know what it is like to encounter a rude person when you are not causing harm - which is why I am never rude to then.

I understand why people do it, they are often taught and expected to.

You might remember that my family is Christian. My mom is very active in the church - for some mission work she had to call a list of numbers about some form of donation. Our neighbor's number was on the list. She called and he repeated to swear at her and cuss her out until she just hung up. That is the last thing I would want to do - no matter what they are selling, what religion they are or what they believe. Because I know what it is like. That is a simply vile way to be to someone.

I consider you on of my good friends Monique, I did not intend to offend you..

The 'yoo hoo!' part; my aunt does the same thing, she'll walk in our house uninvited with her 'Yooo hooo! Oh hi, were you having some afternoon delight?!' She says this same thing EVERY TIME she comes over. If no one is there; she'll make herself at home, use the rest room, pillage the fridge, look through our mail. She does this to everyone.

I would be much more concerned about this certain aunt than ANY church lady that comes over.

6 words: "Get the hell off my lawn!!!!"

Yup.....the sound of someone with a Mossberg 500, racking a round into the chamber is pretty distinct. :D

i rarely get people knocking on the door anymore as the dogs have become mildly infamous for taking their jobs serious and making it known strangers are NOT welcome, and i'm fairly adept at dealing with (and not offended by) door-to-door people of any persuasion.

but at least once a week, and almost daily in summer, i have to deal with trespassers of the nefarious kind: hunters, ATVers, drunks/druggies, illegal campers, and completely hapless-yet-dangerous morons. the most common offense is people just showing up at our lake (i can SO feel your pain Wolf-Kim). they just show up and start fishing, taking no head of the No Trespassing and Private Property signs. the main problem is that LOTS of people have been to our property for various functions (we have a large pavilion for events) and they seem to think that's an open invite to come back, with all their friends, whenever they feel like it. they get ran off pretty fast. some guy actually pulled his boat out to the lake and was in the process of launching it when i came flying up in my car and let loose a very furious tirade. fishing from my docks is bad enough, but think for 2 secs you are putting your little powerboat on my wild Canadian Goose refuge lake and you've got another thing coming, buster.

the ones that are more difficult, and much more dangerous, to deal with are the ones who don't come in the front drive- the hunters, campers, general baddies. i've been trail riding and come across bear hunting parties with LOTS of dogs and drunks. no matter how much i want to rip them a new rear end in that very moment, that could very easily end in my getting shot. so i have to radio my dad and wait for backup. there have been several show-downs. those are the people that SERIOUSLY make me reconsider my stance against never taking a human life.

one such group was hunting bears out of season and chased a young female down into our cow field and up a tree. they had the decency (and stupidity) to come ask us if it was ok if they shot it. we asked them where they'd been hunting to manage to chase this bear into our cow field. they realized then that they'd been trespassing all along and got a bit evasive. my dad "escorted" them off the property, on foot, at gun point while i called the cops and Fish and Wildlife. not only did they NOT get to shoot the bear, but they ended up with heavy fines for illegal hunting and trespassing and we had their vehicles impounded. that was a great satisfaction!

my dad's favorite saying is "I've got a shovel and thousands of acres... and I don't think anyone would miss you."

Just so you know, I am one of those "church ladies." So is my mother. And my aunt. And many, many dear friends. Very good people, doing this usually unwelcomed task because it is what Jesus told all his disciples to do.....People have the legal right to approach and knock on your front door........
Free........
I cut out most of your post, forgive me, but this is the part I wanted to address.

I don't have a problem with the "occasional" visit from church folks. It is the WEEKLY(sometimes TWICE a week) visits, even after repeatedly telling them I am NOT INTERESTED that gets my goat. Jesus may be sending them to my door, BUT, Jesus is also allowing ME to send them a message, but for some reason he just doesn't let it get through to the gray matter between their ears. :he :he

As far as a LEGAL right to approach and knock, even AFTER PASSING NO TRESPASS SIGNS?
Perhaps, but I don't think so......that is why God invented telephones and search warrants......but at any rate....common sense should kick in at some point after seeing big, bold "NO TRESPASS" signs posted. :frow

Freemotion-I too apologize but the problem isn't so much the people who come to the front door and knock respectfully, it's anyone who goes beyond that point and thinks it's okay to do so.
No matter if it's a missionary, salesperson or anyone else. :hugs

It's those unannounced "sales" visits I hate to deal with. :tongue

We had issues with a neighbor, last year. She went as far as too take down the No Trespassing signs...the fence...and started to clear trees in MY woods!! There were lanters hanging in MY trees...she proceeded to com into my woods about 50 feet..to increase HER yard! Woohooo I was mad as a broodie hen knocked off her nest! When she FINALLY came out, I started out polite...asking her if she knew WHO had taken down the fence and signs. ( altho I already knew it was her) She said the fence was already down..Ummm, no it wasn't...and that she was clearing "junk" from my woods to keep the snakes down, because once she moved her trailor onto her land, she would have her grandkids there, and didnt want them to get bit by snakes. She was rambling on and on about snakes, rats, ticks..and so on...when I finally had enough. I just looked at her and said...LOOK, If you are scared of "critters" then maybe you need to move back to town! This is the country..and there are critters everywhere. I then informed her that I would be replaceing the fence, and running at least a pair of Great Pyrenese dogs in my woods. She just looked at me and said...well, I dont know what those are. :/ I just said...well, they are HUGH, white..and VERY protective of THIER land. Oh, and YES, they WILL bite if someone crosses the fenceline. We are now going to be putting up 2 fences...one on the preimeter, and another about 5 feet inside to keep kids fingers from pokeing through, and getting bitten. Some people just dont get what "boundries" are...as for the front door...put a HUGH dog bowl on the porch...next to a pair of LARGE mens boots, and a few shotgun shells. Then a sign that says..NO TRESPASSING. I dont want to seem unfriendly...but..I have the need to protect whats mine. Be it property...or privacy.

Hey, everyone, thanks for being so nice. I get a little worried because I've been treated badly in the past, here and throughout life, and it always stuns me. I'm relieved to get such nice replies. (I see the "new messages" smilie, will get to that after this!)

BB, you know I consider you to be a good buddy of mine! I think I misunderstood some of your post, and you some of mine. I meant to be gentle to you in my reply. I knew it wasn't supposed to be about religion, but it was, to me. :hugs I've read enough of your posts and corresponded with you privately enough to kinda "know" you and trust you, so...smoochies, my friend!

SKR8PN and OF, I was not offended, and it is NOT legal to pass a no trespassing sign. I won't. Some of my "church lady" friends will....I tell them not to when I am with them. I know of a few who will brave barking, growling dogs with the hair up....I think this is just foolish......I think anyone has the right to keep dogs on their property for protection and safety. I say to these silly women...write a letter! Sheesh! I'm not getting out of this car to save your butt! :p

OFG, I wouldn't get out of my car with those dogs, you'd have to call them first. I'd yoohoo all day for a slice of your bacon, and that gander has nothing that the-rooster-formerly-known-as-George had, I could handle him!

Got any of that cake left?

And SKR8PN, I don't drink beer, but a nice vodka collins would go down real smooth with a crispy pan of "bacon explosion..."

Oh, the stories I could tell about what I've run into at doors..... :gig

and :ep
