I am curious: Who here doesn't use Wal-mart? Why??

We have Goodwill and Salvation Army. I see people loading carts with the 50% off tags. I recognized one lady who I know(she has quite a trust fund) and she told me she sells them on EBay!!! Not just the needy buying from thrift shops, I'll tell ya!

Disgusting!!! I sometimes feel guilty, like maybe I should be buying full price for my kids since I could afford to do so (although if I kept doing so, maybe I couldn't afford to after all!) That is really, really disgusting.

Never feel guilty buying at a Goodwill or Salvation Army! I would rather those "richies" and ebay sellers be buying at those stores than at a big retailer, because at least their money ends up going to a good cause. Both Goodwill and Salvation Army do great things with the money they make from second hand clothes!

Count me among those who have bought stuff at Goodwill and resold them on ebay. I did costumes one year and did really well. Fees did get out of hand so I stopped. Now I cam taking some vintage items and getting ready to sell them on etsy.

Anyone need a Trav-L-Bar? It still has the key and everything!

I didn't realize that. I figured the $ from the clothes sales paid the people who staffed the store. Still, I would rather be sure people who are the lowest income get the clothes rather than other people making a profit off my donations.

We wear thrift store clothes. I scored last week and found several pairs of TALL jeans that fit me perfectly. The most I paid was $3.95 for one pair that wasn't on sale. I also got an LL Bean fleece jacket which I really needed.

Now, I ALSO found that Trav-L-Bar for $4.95. The sell for $30-45 dollars. I have this one but in grey.

So when I sell mine, I will use it to buy MORE stuff we need at Goodwill. Hubby needs a new (well, new to him) jacket this time.

I doubt that most poor people would actually WEAR the things that eBayers buy to sell. My friend who does this sells VINTAGE Lingerie! Very few people would buy that kind of thing to actually wear unless they are collectors or buying it for fun wear.

Most usable clothing, like jeans, shirts and dresses or kids wear really does not have a big resale value. This leaves it for the people that actually NEED the stuff to wear. (Me sometimes! ) My D1 purchased most of her work wardrobe at a Salvation Army store when she was working at a high end retailers. Saved tons of money and looked really sharp, but she never had a NEED for any poodle skirts or a Star Trek outfit (but we were really tempted by that one!) I even bought a wedding dress for $4.00 at a thrift store and ALMOST wore it to get married in, but my mother's dress eventually won out. I was married in April and the thrift store dress was a heavy wintery looking dress.

Most stores around here are WELL stocked. The only thing that ever seems low is boys pants and jeans. I guess they wear them all out!

So shop away! That money goes to shelters, and other great community programs.

We shopped at Kohls today. They actually had good quality stuff. On sale it came out to just a little over what Wal Mart charges. Difference is it might last a little longer. Anyone shop at Kohls? This is my first experience with them. I'm sure most of the stuff is China made too.
