"Consider the ant and the grasshopper"
Bee, is this really a quote from the bible? I know that Aesop wrote about the ant and grasshopper in one of his fables, but wasn't aware that it might also be in the bible. I haven't studied the bible in any detail so have no great knowledge about what might or might not be in there. I am just curious; I like to learn little snippits of information. I am not trying to be snarky about your post.

No mention of the grasshopper but I threw it in for emphasis ;) ...just a variation of the old tale:

Proverbs 6:6

Go to the ant, you sluggard;

consider its ways and be wise!

7It has no commander,

no overseer or ruler,

8yet it stores its provisions in summer

and gathers its food at harvest.

9How long will you lie there, you sluggard?

When will you get up from your sleep?

10A little sleep, a little slumber,

a little folding of the hands to rest

11and poverty will come on you like a bandit

and scarcity like an armed man.

Same story, different book, a few character changes.... :P

Little doubt Mr. Franklin derived his statement from this passage. They both say the same thing. But perhaps "The parable of the talents" would have a more understandable approach. HE provides. We are expected to be good stewards of those things with which we are provided. So, in essence what I said IS true.
Do with it as you will.

eta: Hadn't heard anything about March until I read this thread but I can believe it. Rising prices are almost killing me. Hubby got cut on Sunday and blew a lid on my medical-supplies prep ... boy was I not prepared enough. Stocked up today but still need to find a suture kit and topical numbing agent. Other than that, I think we're ready for almost anything.

Good thread.

Perhaps he did, but I think it more likely that he got it from Aesop, a Greek who lived about 600 years BCE. Aesop's fable of the Ant and the Grasshopper specifically mentions the grasshopper, whereas (thank you Bee) the bible apparently does not.
But here I must second Farmerchick. Preps of faith are no doubt good, but not quite the subject of this thread ;)
