I always tell people who go on and on about the evils of fast food to rent "Fathead".

"Comedian (and former health writer) Tom Naughton replies to the blame-McDonalds crowd by losing weight on a fat-laden fast-food diet while demonstrating that nearly everything weve been told about obesity and healthy eating is wrong. Along with some delicious parody of Super Size Me, Naughton serves up plenty of no-bologna facts that will stun most viewers, such as: The obesity epidemic has been wildly exaggerated by the CDC. People the government classifies as overweight have longer lifespans than people classified as normal weight. Having low cholesterol is unhealthy. Lowfat diets can lead to depression and type II diabetes. Saturated fat doesnt cause heart disease but sugars, starches and processed vegetable oils do."

The "obesity epidemic" is a scam to put what we eat under the control of other people, such as the government.

Was watching Iron Chef the other day, a rerun of the battle where the secret ingredient was "anything from the White House garden". Bobby Flay was reaching down into a bush and pulling out a completely clean sweet potato with the end broken off, and the break had been washed as well. Yeah, we ARE that stupid.

I know this is going to ruffle some feathers, but it's just my opinion, so it isn't gospel, but I believe that many of the trends in healthy eating are also manufactured for financial gain by someone, somewhere. Look at the past 40 years at all the things we have been told will kill us, or will cure all our ills. They come and go faster than Ron Popiel's latest "must have" inventions. I apologize if I offend, but so much of it is snake oil. I don't trust hype on any level.

Firstly, yeah kids do need to be told no and smacked now and then. I aslo think they need to bring back the paddle at school.

As for all the BS about the Obeseity Epidemic , eh if people want to eat crappy food let em. If they get fat and die because they do well I'm sorry but that's what I call thinning of the herd.

It's just like all the other idiot profing you see nowadays. There is always that note at the bottom of the tv: don't try this at home. Or huge fifteen foot fences on every bridge. Or people that have their entire house "baby safe".That's what we have done with our society "baby safed" all of america.

That's why we have so many idiots nowadays. So I say take down the fences! Let them steal copper wire! Let them eat at McDonalds every day! Lets help make the world a better place!;)

That's part of the equation. The part that gets me is the stuff government tells us to do in regards to health is nutrition is what makes people fat and sick in the first place. I do think people who wish to commit suicide by Twinkie are welcome to it! I just get angry when we are told to eat more grains and less meat. Grrrrrrrr.

The answer is not to have publicly funded health care. Also let individuals purchase plans not tied to their job. Having the gvmnt regulate what you eat is a recipe for disaster. These are the people who keep telling everyone to eat more grains and less meat. Had I stuck with those recommendations I would be dead by now.

Where is that happening? I haven't seen any gov't agents at McDonald's. Well, I haven't been to McDonalds, but seriously? Who's regulating?

The gvmnt already regulates what you eat. I can't get raw milk. Store are pulling kumbacha off the shelves because gvmnt doesn't like that the natural fermentation creates a small amount of alcohol.

http://www.jointogether.org/news/headlines/inthenews/2010/kombucha-disappears-among.html

Gvmnt decides what school children eat through the hot lunch program and which crops are planted through farm subsidies.

Remember when the cspi went on an anti-coconut oil rant? Turns out coconut oil isn't the problem. HYDROGENATING it is, but coconut oil itself is a very healthy food.

Is there a health cop standing outside of every McDonalds? Of course not. Do some people WANT there to be? Yes. Do some of those people have the power to make something like that happen? Yes.

Here is a chilling story...
"Should morbidly obese kids be put in foster care? It's a provocative question, but that's exactly what a group of health care specialists on the other side of the pond are recommending.

Their logic? If children can be removed from a home because of health risks like physical and mental abuse or failure to care for health problems like asthma or epilepsy, why not a long term health risk like obesity which can create a life long struggle with diabetes and heart problems.

"Childhood obesity can be seen as a failure to adequately care for your children by failing to provide a healthy diet and sufficient activity, whether through direct neglect or more subtly through an inability to deny children the pleasures of energy dense fast food and television viewing," wrote the study's lead author Russell Vine in a paper published in the British Medical Journal.

According to the Los Angeles Times, there are already reports of children being removed from homes in America for health risks and the British report sites 20 cases in the United Kingdom.

But what does it mean for American children, who are increasingly dangerously overweight. Nearly twenty percent of kids aged 6 to 19 are obese, according to the Centers of Disease Control.

That's an awful lot of kids to put in foster care."

I would love to completely transform agriculture in America, but I can't. I CAN choose to buy and not to buy foods that reflect my values.

In my case, I grow and sell foods that reflect my values and find more than enough customers who feel likewise.

So, as is often the case, vote with your dollar.

Here's another example. In California, a new law has been proposed. Here's part:

1596.808. A licensed child day care facility shall comply with
all of the following requirements:
(a) Serve only 1 percent milk or nonfat milk to children two years
of age or older.
The stated purpose is to prevent kids from becoming obese.
