Building a cabin with loft....advice needed.

It will be standard frame. Is the 12/12 scary because you would hate to shingle it (I do not plan on participating in this part....heights are not my thing) or is there some other reason?

Building a cabin with loft....advice needed.

We are going to be building a cabin on property we purchased in Northern Wisconsin. I am very excited but a little nervous. To meet the 500 square foot requirement we are building a 16X24 cabin with a 12 foot loft. My husband and I will be building it ourselves (we built our first house too)...

Just curious, what's the weather like where you;re at.

It doesn't happen often, In my 9 1/2 years working with this district we have now had 5 snow days I think. But when I looked out the window this morning and could not see the 12 foot evergreen that is about 10 feet from the house I knew the wind was bad!!

Just curious, what's the weather like where you;re at.

We had snow yesterday and all last night, then the wind picked up. School was cancelled for today for my kids. It is miserable if you have to be out and about but if you are inside with a warm fire going and a homegrown turkey in the oven for later.... its all good!!! :)

what to do with small, mesh bags (e.g. from onions)

I put treats such as a head of cabbage in them and then hang them in the center of my chicken run. It is fun to watch the chickens peck at it as it swings and it keeps them entertainted for a bit. I also use them to store onions and garlic and that kind of thing from my garden. I have not...

Names with Faces - Post your picture here!

Well, my niece is the beautiful young one in yellow and my nephew is the dorky one in back, so that leaves me as the only other one in the photo. I am like most of the others, I prefer not to be in the picture but would rather be taking them.

Cooking with less meat ideas? (to save money)

OK - being from Minnesota we eat alot of Hotdishes. I believe you all call them casseroles. One of the favorites around my house is ... Tator Tot Hotdish 1lb hamburger - I often use ground turkey to save money- it doesn't really change the taste. 1 can or 1 pint mixed veggies - I will often...

    Locally Grown produce

We are lucky here to have locally grown produce at our grocers as well. The prices are pretty good too. Between that and the farmers markets I guess I can usually find what I need in the spring, summer, and fall. It is the winter that I have to put up with whatever else is available. :(

What a great day! It was 74 degrees, which is so unusual for November in Minnesota. We did not have school today, end of quarter, so the boys and I took full advantage of the great weather! We were able to get so much done. I started the morning by paying bills. I hate that job, but it has...

Oh man it is already 3:00 but I do have a long list of things I should do when I get home after work... #1. Add a little more bedding to Chicken Coop number two. Just cause the boys cleaned it out last and I think it needs a little more. #2. Feed and water all the animals. #3. Get...

What are all of you crafters making for Christmas?

We give gifts to my parents, and my in laws, as well as our children obviously, but I also give to my co workers, my two nieces, and I think this year I will give a small basket of baked goods to our new neighbors. Just because I really like them. Most of the gifts we give our homemade. If...

    Sloppy joe recipe anyone?

I freeze sloppy joes all the time. When I make them, I make double take half before the rest of the family realizes it and freeze it. Works good for me. If I know I am going to be short on time some night I take the sloppy joes out the night before and stick them in the fridge. There you go...
